CONCORD, N.H. — A hermit known as “River Dave” has been charged with trespassing after returning to the site of the cabin where he once lived.
David Lidstone previously lived on the Concord, New Hampshire property for three decades before a fire destroyed his cabin and he was ordered to leave, The Associated Press reported.
Lidstone was in jail when his cabin burned down in August, as we previously reported. At the time, he was facing charges because the cabin was built on someone else’s land, and he had refused to leave. Lidstone had said a previous owner gave him verbal approval to live there years ago, but the current owner, Leonard Giles, wants the man off his property.
Lidstone is now accused of returning to the property, turning a shed that survived the fire in August into a home complete with a wood stove, the AP reported. In an interview with the AP, Lidstone said, “Sometimes, you have to stand up for what is right. I’m 81, I’ve got nothing to lose.”
The fire that destroyed the cabin in August was ruled accidental, The Associated Press reported.
Lidstone faces a court hearing in March.
