Riot police at the Texas Capitol separated White Lives Matter protesters from two larger groups of counter-protesters who clashed Saturday.

The protests involved up to 400 people, according to authorities on the scene, with riot police using clear-plastic shields to separate them.

The White Lives Matter group numbered no more than 20 participants. They arrived at the Capitol this morning to protest what they call the unequal application of hate crimes laws, which they say favor minorities.

“Hate crimes for one, hate crimes for all,” read one of their signs.

The counter-protesters dwarfed the small group, yelling “Nazi scum!” and “Cops and Klan go hand in hand!” in a bullhorn-boosted exchange of insults, chants and counter-chants with the White Lives Matter protesters.

The groups clashed after the Texas African American History Memorial was unveiled Saturday morning at a ceremony at the Capitol.
