Local police agencies offering parking lots as safety zones for online product exchanges

Local police departments are reminding citizens to think about safety when buying something from a stranger online this holiday season.

“Just schedule it to come to a police department parking lot,” Officer Aaron Wilson said. “If the person you are dealing with on the other side does not want to meet you in a police department parking lot, there is probably a good reason for that.”

After numerous incidents of people getting robbed when buying or selling something online, Cobb County police set up safety zones at every police precinct and at its headquarters.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Department and Gwinnett County Police also have designated areas. Atlanta police say citizens can come to their precincts as well to ensure their safety.
