It is the start of a busy weekend for holiday travel. Passengers are already seeing long lines at the airport.

Those times have stretched as long as 40 minutes on Friday morning at Hartsfield-Jackson.

If there is a government shutdown, TSA agents will still have to report to work, but the agency does warn those delays could get longer.

As for the roads, congestion is expected to pick up starting at 1 p.m. this afternoon. Montrae Waiters says there are all kinds of things that can lead to accidents, including “speeding, putting on makeup, driving impaired.”

Gas prices are holding steady at $2.90 per gallon on average in the state of Georgia.

“Georgia gas prices saw minimal or no change at the pumps across the state,” Waiters said. “Crude oil prices fell by more than 1% last Friday. With the Thanksgiving travel now in our rearview mirror, it appears that gas prices are steadfastly continuing their gradual descent.”

Traffic data from Inrix says Sunday is expected to be the busiest day for traveling in the car before Christmas.
