Have you ever tied a giraffe to a pole? You’ll want to pay closer attention to some (rather bizarre) Georgia legislation.

Sites like dumblaws.com, which Business Insider points out "rarely link to states' current statutes or may misinterpret them," tend to perpetuate myths about some of the strangest laws in states across the U.S.

"Yes, it's illegal for a drunk person to enter a bar in Alaska," Business Insider's Melia Robinson and Erin McDowell write. However, they add, "No, a woman's hair does not legally belong to her husband in Michigan."

In Georgia, some of the strangest laws still on the books include:

  • In Atlanta, you can't tie a giraffe to a pole.
  • In Acworth, all citizens must own a rake.
  • In Gainesville, chicken must be eaten with your hands.
  • In Athens, Massage businesses can't serve alcohol on the side.
