We are obligated, by law, to take advertising from any qualified federal candidate. While the candidate must identify the race and themselves personally in their messaging, and say who is paying for the commercial, we are forbidden from restricting or altering the content of those advertising messages.
We are given a choice whether or not we will accept a local or state race, such Tax Commissioner, DA or Governor. While we make every attempt to give access to every candidate, there are times when we are unable to fulfill certain requests. As with federal candidates, we are not allowed to edit the content of their commercials and they must identify who is paying for the advertisement. Of note, if we take one candidate of a particular race, we must take all candidates in that contest.
PACS (Political Action Committees) and various other groups may advertise and advocate for certain candidates or causes. These are referred to as issue advertisements. We reserve the right to require proof of their claims and also require that any group buying time for an issue campaign divulge their organization and certain members of their board of directors.
