Atlanta and North Georgia are now in the worst drought we've ever seen. That's why I'm going to make it unbelievably easy to start saving water.

You don't even have to do all of them. Pick some, and just start doing them until they become a habit. Then, you'll be saving water without even feeling it!

So here's some unbelievably easy ways to conserve water:

  • Keep your showers under five minutes.

  • Soak cooked food off pots and pans, instead of scraping the food off under running water.

  • When you're brushing your teeth or shaving, don't let the water run in the sink. Turn it on when you need it, and then turn it back off.

  • Drop tissues in the trash, instead of putting them in the toilet and then flushing them away.

  • Plants in pots die more from over-watering than under-watering. Water your house plants only as much as they need.

  • Instead of frequently running the garbage disposal in your kitchen sink ... put your disposables in a small, Tupperware-style container instead, and then grind them all up together once a day.

  • When you wash your hands ... while you soap them up, turn off the water!

  • Put food coloring in your toilet tank; if the water in the bowl turns color, you have a leak! Fix it easily to save hundreds of gallons a month.

  • Adjust your lawn mower to a higher setting; longer grass holds more water in the soil than a closely cut lawn does.

  • Run both the washing machine and the dishwasher only when you have a full load.

  • Keep a pitcher of cold water in the fridge, instead of running tap water and waiting for it to get cold.

  • Check inside and outside your house for leaky faucets and pipes ... then, fix the ones that need it!

  • If you have an older toilet, save a gallon or two every time you flush. Put a plastic bottle with some sand in the bottom inside your toilet tank to displace some of the water you don't need to use.
