U2: Where the Street Has a name
U2 had a Manhattan street temporarily named after them yesterday. In celebration of their appearance each night this week on The Late Show With David Letterman, and yesterday's release of No Line on the Horizon, Mayor Michael Bloomberg renamed part of West 53rd Street U-2 Way. The band was on hand for the ceremony yesterday, with Bono saying, "The Beatles had Penny Lane, Elvis lived on the end of Lonely Street. We're here somewhere between 10th Avenue and funky, funky Broadway, somewhere south of Duke Ellington Way and north of Joey Ramone Place we find ourselves...where the streets have no name." A street sign was presented to each member, with Bono joking, "Edge just said this is the first time he's been seen with a street sign and not been arrested." U-2 are expected to unveil their tour plans on Monday. On Wednesday they will do a club show in Boston. --Sal Cirrincione |
