Steve Miller!
Les Paul taught him how to play the guitar.
When Steve was 4 years old, he met Les Paul who taught him some chords and later let him sit in on some of his recording sessions.
He dropped the blues and became a mega-star.
In the mid '60s, he started out as The Steve Miller Blues Band. In 1973 he released The Joker album shooting him straight to the top of the charts.
He loves what grows in Georgia's trees,
"Peaches, " from the lyrics to "The Joker" -- "I really love your peaches, wanna shake your tree."
And just what the heck is "pompitous," please?
Lyric from "The Joker," "cause I speak of the pompitous of love." I actually got to ask Steve Miller about this during an interview years ago and he was very coy about responding and wouldn't give me a straight answer. I've since learned that R&B group The Medallions had a song called "The Letter," with a made-up word similar to pompitous in it -- Steve Miller is a big R&B fan...
