Can anyone who listened to the radio during the 1970's possibly forget the legendary hits "Free Ride" and "Frankenstein" by the Edgar Winter Group?
Edgar Winter seems to miss the old days, and I guess when I comes to music, there are a few of us who feel the same way. Well, Winter's got a new album out called Rebel Road. Inspired by his work on Ringo Starr's "All Starr Band" a couple of years ago, Winter decided to do something about the lack of music which embodies the same spirit of freedom that so much of the music from the 1970's represented to him.

Rebel Road features a few well-known performers who lent their talents to the effort, including Slash, former lead guitar man for Guns N' Roses, country music star Clint Black and Edgar's brother Johnny, whom Edgar has been jamming with since their teenage years.

Winter seems to be quite pleased with the final result of the work that was put into Rebel Road, and has high praise for both Slash, who plays lead guitar on the title track, and Clint Black, a fellow Texan who helped bring a little country sound to the album.

Check out this You Tube video of Edgar talking about the inspiration behind the project!

She may not be as recognizable as her movie-star half-sister Liv, but Mia Tyler, the Aerosmith frontman's eldest daughter has earned her own celebrity status as a plus-size model. She's also done some acting, appearing in Rush Hour 3, as well as in TV series Celebrity Fit Club during 2005.Mia Tyler's Book

Now she's making news of her own with the release of her new autobiography entitled Creating Myself: How I Learned That Beauty Comes in All Shapes, Sizes, and Packages, Including Me. I don't know whether the beauty she refers to is inner or outer beauty, but it is clear why she has found success as a plus-size model --

The excerpt of the book I mentioned above centers around a trip to her childhood home on Lake Sunapee in New Hampshire. A trip that her and her rock star dad made together by car from neighboring Massachusetts that ended up being an emotional journey back through time, and an unexpected discovery that led to feelings of forgiveness for her late mother, whose struggles with addiction made for a less-than-ideal childhood for young Mia.

The author struggles with her own demons later in life when she finds herself following the path that both of her parents walked on before her, the one that led to drug addiction and the emotional and physical damage that often results.

I suspect this book will be a good read for many Aerosmith fans who may find the glimpse into the life of a rock star's daughter interesting and entertaining. It could also be considered inspirational for people who are struggling with or have struggled with substance abuse, since Mia Tyler seems to have defeated her demons and is now enjoying continued success as both a model and actress.

Recent reports say that Ronnie Wood's wife Jo has decided to give up on their marriage, and is planning a move to the United States where she will work at promoting her brother's art work. Her brother, Paul Karslake, is a creator of pricey artwork that sister Jo hopes she can convince wealthy Americans to purchase.

Ron Wood And Wife Jo Jo's reunion hopes were apparently dashed when she realized that husband Ron's fling with teenager, Ekaterina Ivanova wasn't just the brief, alcohol-fueled affair she had assumed it was. Wood was quoted not long ago saying that he loved both Ivanova and his wife, and was having a very difficult time deciding which one he wanted to be with. Apparently, wife Jo is planning to help him with that decision.

Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page doesn't perform often these days but when he does it's a big event. Now you can add the Summer Olympics to that list. Reports out of London say Jimmy will back singer Leona Lewis at the August 24th closing ceremony in Beijing, China. The event will signal the handing over of the games to London, where they will be held in 2012. Page has also made news recently with the Led Zeppelin reunion and when he joined the Foo Fighters in London, which was filmed for a DVD.

Amazing.....

60-year old Sam Carter, a retired baker in the U.K. had slipped into a coma after suffering from severe anemia. The coma had lasted for 10 weeks when doctors suggested to Carter's wife that she slip a pair of headphones on him and expose him to some music.

Eva, Carter's 65-year-old wife accepted the doctors recommendation, and soon Sam Carter was listening to pop music from U.K. radio station Signal 2. Although I suppose we cannot be sure he was actually listening, however, the image musical therapy may have been the key to his recovery.

It took three days, but the song that seemed to strike a vital chord with Carter was the Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction." He opened his eyes while the legendary 1965 hit single was piped through his headphones. Although Mrs. Carter really did not expect the music to do much good, much to her surprise, her husband's eyes opened and he emerged from his coma.

It turns out that "Satisfaction" is a song that Carter has special memories of.

"All I can remember is that when that song came on, it took me right back to when I was a youngster. I could remember how excited I was to get hold of the record down at the store. I suddenly had a burst of energy and knew I had a lot more life left in me and that's when I woke up - to the sound of the first song I ever bought!" he said.

Given only a 30 percent chance of survival, it seems as if the Stones worked some kind of magic for Sam Carter and it's something he is certainly grateful for. Reporting that he is now feeling quite fit, Carter publicly thanked Mick Jagger and the rest of the Rolling Stones for aiding his recovery.

With the recent completion of Brian May's PhD in mind, perhaps an honorary doctorate of medicine should be considered for the Stones in light of their potential rock and roll healing abilities.

It must be nice to have publishing companies bidding against each other for the rights to publish your autobiography. The most recent legendary rocker to enjoy that experience is Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler.

Ecco, an imprint under the HarperCollins umbrella won the auction, and has reportedly agreed to shell out $2 million for Tyler's story. Perhaps stories would be a better way to put it, since I'm sure the aging rocker has a wealth of Steven Tyler exploits to draw upon after so many years fronting such a successful rock act.

Publishers are obviously willing to pay handsomely for the kind of colorful work that results when rock stars start sharing a few secrets.

To say that Steven Tyler has had an interesting and eventful life would be an understatement. He's overcome a heroin addiction, and is the father of actress Liv Tyler, who recently revealed that she would like to move in a little on her dad's action by becoming a singer, and would love to do a musical on Broadway.

There was no word on the timetable for the completion of the book, but there will no doubt be an impressive number of Aerosmith fans who are willing to part with a few dollars to read Tyler's story when it hits bookstore shelves.

A post on the Doobie Brothers website says drummer Michael Hossack has been "seriously injured in a taxi cab accident while on tour with the band. He is currently in stable condition in the hospital. More information will follow as soon as we have it." This is the second time in the last eight years that Hossack has been involved in a vehicular accident. In 2000 he was in a very serious motorcycle wreck that left him sidelined for 14 months. And, to add to his troubles, earlier this year, someone was going around Las Vegas impersonating Hossack. That person has since been arrested.

We're pulling for him!

Queen's Brian May - An Astrophysicist

Being a rock star and an astrophysicist, although an odd combination perhaps, is no trivial accomplishment.

The latest academic achievement for Brian May of Queen is the publication of his PhD thesis, entitled A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud (say that three times fast!). The work is on the subject of what happens to the dust particles left over from the formation of the solar system about 4.6 billion years ago.Brian May

The thesis, which includes more than 200 pages of stuff most of us wouldn't understand, was well received by those charged with judging its worthiness.

Brian Cox, a physics professor at Manchester University, commented that "Brian May's achievement is amazing. People do not realize just how much hard work goes into a PhD."

May first began work on the thesis in 1970 when he decided to put his academic ambitions on hold when Queen really started to take off. The completion of that thesis that was started some 38 years ago suggests that Brian May is a man who does not like to leave things unfinished. Ya think?
